Dominican Republic moving ahead with National Geological Service
As mentioned some time ago on the West Indies Real Estate blog, The National Geological Service (SNG) -a dependency of the Ministry of Economy, Planning and Development -has now begun its operations.
The SNG was created thanks to funding from the European Union. Deputy Pelegrin Castillo, president of the Chamber of Deputies Permanent Commission on Energy and Mines and a key supporter of the SNG, outlined the new department's role. In an interview, he told Listin Diario that the SNG will be useful for the mining sector, in the construction of infrastructure, hydraulic resources, identification of seismic risks and disaster prevention, urban and rural planning and for the country's scientific-technological development. The first director is Santiago Munoz.
